Historical and Military paintings tell a Story

Historical and Military paintings are a classification of works of art which experts state are generally based mostly on the topic, or the subject matter rather as opposed to the artistic style. History art illustrates a decisive moment in a story or perhaps narrative instead of a stationary subject(s) such as within portraits. A history painting is merely a account concerning an occurrence or a group of people and their traditions, routines, norms, attitudes and practices.

As mentioned by André Félibien, French chronicler of the arts and recognized court historian to Louis XIV of France (1667), Historical works of art is the grand genre of all art and it falls within the finest of the hierarchy of oil painting genres. This is actually due to the fact they incorporate a uncommon explanation of life, which in turn is undoubtedly creatively woven in a meaningful and intellectual presentation.

History paintings share an experience of struggle, anticipation, bravery and courage originally from the very ancient time periods to the present day environment and the times to come. The messages are generally commanding enough to exceed any change. They are long lasting. They are much more than simply tales together with useful lessons that could have been mastered just simply by examining the works of art and considering the context to recognize the significance.

History paintings commonly documented the Nineteenth century. They were generally sizeable works of art on canvas such as Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling. Others include Diana and Actaeon by Tiziano Vecelli (1556-1559) and The Death of General Wolfe by Benjamin West.

A history artist is an specialist who is an expert in showing you moments from Christian and Classical history and mythology, making use of oil paint, painting brush and an oil painting canvas. The impressive activities of Greek and Roman fables, mythology and history have been featured in a good number of history paintings. The main subject matter in history paintings is typically a heroic individual or possibly a god, a heavenly being or perhaps a superhuman personality.

Academic painting, which often was the painting style that was created by painters in national academies in the Eighteenth century, completely adopted History paintings. The very same setting took place throughout post-revolutionary France as well. History painting afterwards evolved into a preference and source of motivation for later painting movements such as the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood throughout England. This appeared to be credited to the outstanding expertise and ability of re-known painters such as Claude Joseph Vernet, Pierre-Narcisse Guérin, Henri Jean-Baptiste and Théodore Géricault.

The Impressionist painters nevertheless declined and ignored pretty much all traditional subject matter and myths apart from the Édouard Manet's conflict and violence works of art such as Battle of the Kearsarge and the Alabama (1864), Execution of Emperor Maximilian of Mexico (1868), The Barricade (Civil War) of 1871 and The Execution of Emperor Maximilian (1867).

Oil painting reproductions of historical works of art can be found and are constantly being generated in the form of canvas oil paintings. These oil paintings works of art happen to be hand-painted by present day and proficient artists to make sure that level of quality and recognition will be upheld in the abstract paintings.

Glass Painting your Birthday Cards - A Learners Guide

In this guide to glass-painting your birthday cards, you will find out all you need to know to begin in this trendy craft.

Two variations of contrastive glass painting are in existence today - water-based and non-water-based. Both of them have a wide range of colours and are mixable within their classes.

When applying an outline, you can choose one of three different ways whilst crafting glass painted birthday cards:

Outline Stickers - Novices to glass painting should find these perfect and they are best used on flat, level surfaces. Starting in the corner, slowly peel up the sticker, taking care not to stretch or distort it and apply it to the clean glass surface area of your birthday cards.

Glass paint outliner - These are applied by squeezing the outliner from a tube to provide a fine outline. They come in a choice of colours. They are able to be used as an outline for your design before paint is applied or piped over a pre-painted surface as fine detailing.

Leading Tape - Doors and windows usually need this type of outliner.

Technique

Before you commence painting, ensure that there are no specs of dust and grease on the glass area of the birthday cards, to ensure good adherence. Use a solvent, such as white-spirit or methylated spirit.

Because a birthday card has a flat surface, designs are usually traced straight through. It is easier to work on a flat surface, so try to lay the birthday card of a horizontal surface.

To create a straight line with a glass paint outliner touch the nozzle onto a glass surface then applying a gentle steady pressure, lift the nozzle from the surface and stretch out the outliner along in a straight line. Tap the nozzle down on the glass surface at the last part of your line.

Whilst filling in areas in between outlines on the glass section of your birthday cards with a paint brush, apply paint liberally by peddling the paint or using a pipette. This is able to provide a smooth, stained-glass look. To develop a lighter colour of paint, weaken with water for the water-based paints or gloss varnish for the non-water based paints.

Paint should always be poured into a palette as opposed to straight from the jar. This prevents colours turning dirty or diluted. Glass paint can also be applied using a sponge, but birthday cards often have smaller areas, whereas this technique is in general, best for wider areas.

To finish, a coat of varnish can be a used to protect solvent based paints, glass paint varnish comes in either a matt or gloss finish. Gloss finish tends to be most popular for birthday cards, however some people might be looking for something exclusive. Gloss varnish is sometimes also used as a colourless thinner, which will obtain pastel shades, while keeping the colour depth and any transparent effects. The matt varnish offers a finish in the form of frosted glass. To add finishing touches to a project, while the paint is still wet, you can use tweezers to add beads or sequins. The wet paint is a good substitute for glue. Glitter can also be added by sprinkling it on the wet paint to give your birthday cards that special bit of glisten.

Memo: When adopting these methods in conditions other than for your birthday cards, glass paint is supposed to be applied merely for decorative items, the colors usually are not dishwasher proof. It can, nevertheless be shined by using a damp flannel.

Beginning Artists ?EUR" Beginner tips and information to make painting fun

Information Overload
As a beginning artist/painter there is so much information out there that can help, but a lot of it can be overwhelming to the beginning artist. I have put together some ideas that have helped me to become a better painter and in turn my work looks more professional. I hope to someday be good enough to have a following and be able to make a living being an artist.
Canvas
Just in the canvas selection alone, a beginner can get overwhelmed with what type of canvas to buy. The easiest way to go is to buy an already gallery wrapped white canvas. This is canvas material already wrapped around a wood frame. It is stapled around the frame and is pulled firmly so there are no loose areas. This type of canvas comes in all sorts of sizes and I have even seen black canvas now being gallery wrapped.
I suggest for beginners to not think small but to start small. A smaller canvas is easier to manage and if you don't like your work, you aren't out the money it costs for a large canvas. Good point, the smaller canvases are reasonable in price especially if you get them on sale. I shop at my local craft store and by using the 40% off coupon the purchase price for gallery wrapped canvas is not bad. Gallery wrapped canvas also eliminates the need for a frame which will save you money as we all know frames aren't cheap.
As you get better or just need to feel what it is like to paint on a large canvas, use the coupon idea to buy yourself a large gallery wrapped canvas for a reasonable price. Remember though that more canvas means more paint and longer painting time so make sure you are prepared for a possibly long painting artistic session, both mentally and physically. I've started on large projects and early into them realized I wasn't ready to spend the time on it, and unfortunately had to waste paint and ultimately dollars.
If you have a large canvas that you've painted but aren't happy with the work that sits on it. Don't throw that canvas out. I have and will continue I'm sure to re-use canvases. Simply take a neutral color of old house paint and cover your canvas with it. This will give you a whole new clean canvas to start from. I have also taken house paint as it is cheaper than using artist paint, and strategically only covered certain spots of the used canvas. This allows for some of the art below to breakthrough and this makes for a very unique effect. Experiment is the name of the game.
We also have the option to paint on paper sheet canvas. This is free form canvas paper in sheets that are not bound to a frame. I am looking forward to using this type of canvas as it will make framing easy, however, I am shying away from it at this point of my painting career because I like the freedom and mobility the gallery wrapped canvas gives me. With the paper canvas you will need an easel to keep it in place. I have the easel, but I personally really enjoy the freedom to move my canvas. This allows me to paint in different stoke directions, it also gives me the ability to see the painting in different lighting easily. An easel would make those activities kind of hard.
So do we go with white canvas or black canvas? I've been noticing several artists are beginning to use black canvas instead of the traditional white. I have had my eye on the black canvas and will be utilizing it soon. However, I've noticed at least at my local craft store that they only carry very small gallery wrapped canvas sizes. You will not find anything larger than a 12x12 canvas, at least not at our local big box craft store. But who knows, trends change and you may see these types of canvases everywhere sooner than you think.
I love being an artist. I have learned useful information and helpful tips along the way and I would like to share them with you as I continue to learn along my artist journey.
Happy Artistry!
