Once upon a time...run in Art News 26 January 2005

the most well known Dane in the world,
author Hans Christian Andersen, would have been 200 years old.
The anniversary is being celebrated with a huge cultural year devoted to Andersen,
both in Denmark and worldwide.

Improving my English

I get a lot of encouragements from people around the world.
I keep of course track of these - thoroughly.
And put them into my testimonials and critics on my web site for marketing reasons.
I really enjoy this. "I loved your web designs and art", "your work is amazing!", "I am really impressed with the use of colour", "your outstanding work"
"What a wonderful site!", "It makes me proud to be an artist", "Impressive Work!", "Highly original derivative", "oxymoronic singularity", "individually universal", "satirical", "chutzpah subversive hilarity", "I am LOVING LONVIG",  "Wonderful work!", "it's so different!", "Your color and amazing simplicity inspire me so madly", "beauty is in simplicity", "your work is really great!!!", "I love your concept! Your art and your generosity of spirit", "but after reading your biography and seen your wonderful Art, your name should be "Loving"", "All of your art and specially the Lucca Project are superb works of fine art", "I have enjoyed your art works with a tremendous amount of enthusiasm" etc. etc.
But.
But.
But.
But.There is a reverse of the medal.
Now and then I get really angry responses.
So angry that I can't understand that people can be that upset over art on a web site.
I got an e-mail from XXX YYYY, who lives in Belgium.
In the subject of the e-mail he writes:
"you sir, are a disgrace to artists!"
and
"your painting make me feel sick by just looking at the colors"
"You, my dear sir, are a low-life, not worthy your webspace, and not at all the money you get"
The easiest way to deal with this would be to ignore it.I initiate a dialog.
I really want to investigate what makes people that angry.
I answered him politely to look here and there on my web site to find answers to his "questions".
And I too told him that I would like to write this article about his responses - which he agreed to.
Here is XXX YYYY's (the name is known to the editor) answer:
"Of course I don't mind, my name is XXX YYYY - YYYY is my last name. I live in Belgium and right now I study political sciences. Before that I have spent 2 years in a school of arts, and I just have to say that what you do goes against everything we have been taught there".
"especially the fact that all of your studies seem to be made on PC disturbs me"
"the fact that the "works for sale" on your site are made on the PC somehow makes me feel that you are more into money then into art"
"Your ideas for the Louvre or San Marco plaza in Venice are an insult to the artists who initially designed those places"
"What also disturbs me is that you only seem to make abstract works. But abstract work is unreal if you haven't started out by drawing after reality. Check the masters, Mondrean and Picasso"
I answered to this as polite as possible.
I answered every single question.
And I think I have come very close to understanding XXX YYYY's anger in his own statement:
"I have spent 2 years in a school of arts, and I just have to say that what you do goes against everything we have been taught there".
And that's totally right.
Therefore I have doubled the number of apearances and made this bar more visible on my main page:
Far more heated conversations have improved my English with words like:"dumbest shit", "plain shit", "old twat", "fucking stupid", "those pieces of shit", "ridiculous "sculptures"", "trash poem","SHIT DOODLES", "ignorant idiot", "you don't know shit about art", "you have no talent", "old braindead fatass""if anyone actually likes your work they are too ignorant to realize...", "go have a heart attack or something before you spread any more of this disgusting crap on earth".And I know, that doing things "MY WAY" will improve my English dramatically.............................___________________________________________________________________________Below the entire e-mail conversation betwin XXX YYYY, Belguim and Asbjorn Lonvig

First of all, your work is made in PAINT!
and you show a total lack of knowledge concerning painting techniques. As you may not know, Acrylic paint can not be used to paint metalic surfaces. You also know nothing about colors, most of your painting make me feel sick by just looking at the colors. Then there's the fact that nowherev, absolutely nowhere, you show a real finished work (either a painting or a sculpture), so I highly doubt that you have one that looks fashionably.

You also don't know the value of money, let me help yo uon that. Your so-called art isn't worth any. Asking 10,000 dollars for such a piece of crap is outrageous.

You also try to use methods of Andy Warhol, Mondrean and a few other masters, but you don't understand what was so good about their work in the first place, otherwise you could have made something good out of it. So obviously you're just copying a technique that you don't even understand, just because they pay good money?

You, my dear sir, are a low-life, not worthy your webspace, and not at all the money you get (assuming anyone pays you).

-XXX-

Dear XXX YYYY,

Thank you very much for your e-mail.
"You, my dear sir, are a low-life, not worthy your webspace, and not at all the money you get".

That's your opinion, and I can do nothing about it. You disagree with many around the world - see Testimonials.

But I can correct some mistakes:
Acrylic can of course be used on metallic surfaces.
What colorful simplicity is all about - please read in Colorful News, Editorial.
Lots of finished works are presented on my web page - see my gallery - it's filled with paintings.
See Gallery News.
See the painting process for more knowledge on this phase.
See all the finished sculptures.

You have to use some more time investigating my site - there are 1500 pages.
If you have further questions - feel free to ask again.

Sincerely,
Asbjorn Lonvig

Dear XXX YYYY,

I thank you very much for your comprehensive response.
If you want to develop as a human being you have to cope with all kinds of
response.
From responses glorifying your art to responses that call it "disgrace to artists"
and me "a low-life, not worthy your webspace, and not at all the money you get".

I would like to write an article about you and your response (quoting your response in details) to the
Art News on 22 December 2004.
If you don't mind, please tell me your name, address and occupation.
If you still don't mind please tell a little about yourself.

Sincerely,
Asbjorn Lonvig

Of course I don't mind, my name is XXX YYYY (YYYY is my last name). I live in Belgium and right now I study political sciences. Before that I have spent 2 years in a school of arts, and I just have to say that what you do goes against everything we have been taught there.
And especially the fact that all of your studies seem to be made on PC disturbs me. Since the creation of an art work begins at the very beginning, and you can't just draw some lines on a computer for that. Sketches on paper carry so much more work within them. Even if only because some of the wrong lines are still there as the lone witnesses of previous attempts. And the fact that the "works for sale" on your site are made on the PC somehow makes me feel that you are more into money then into art. When you sell one, do you remove the PC-made image from your site? Or is it still for sale and will you paint it again and again as long as people are buying it?
And as an artist you should also show respect to other art, classic art for example. Your ideas for the Louvre or San Marco plaza in Venice are an insult to the artists who initially designed those places.
What also disturbs me is that you only seem to make abstract works. But abstract work is unreal if you haven't started out by drawing after reality. Check the masters, Mondrean and Picasso for example, they started out by drawing and painting after nature. They only started working in an abstract style after that had formed within them. Just starting with abstract is like seeing how much money it's worth and trying to get a piece of that.
If you need to know more, feel free to ask me.

-XXX-

Dear XXX YYYY,

Thank you very much for giving me your name etc.
I appriciate your opinion.
As a consequence I have made the attention bar more visible. By clicking on the attention bar you will see My Way at the same time you see my name. In My Way I tell about my controversial way of working.
I have not the intention to fool anybody.

My answers to your last e-mail:

"studies seem to be made on PC disturbs me"
My studies are made like every other artist make studies. I make sketches on paper if that is the best way. I take photos if that's the best way. I use computer, if that's the best way. I....
Often the best way is a mix of the above.

"that the "works for sale" on your site are made on the PC somehow makes me feel that you are more into money then into art"
Why? - In my past I have exhibited physical art works all over the world. It's time consuming, expecive and you can only exhibit a physical art work in one place at a time.
I refuse to do this - and I know it's controversial.
In my past I have made a lot of art works that did not sell.
I refuse to do so - and I know it's controversial.

When you sell one, do you remove the PC-made image from your site? Or is it still for sale and will you paint it again and again as long as people are buying it?
Sold art works are marked Sold.
Edition X tells how many specimens of each motif.

Your ideas for the Louvre or San Marco plaza in Venice are an insult to the artists who initially designed those places.
I have never thought of it that way. I feel it's a mark of honour.

I have chosen to make abstract works in order to communicate through pictures in the most power full way.
What counts is what you see.
Everything else doesn't matter.

Money?
I could not care less.
I became a selfmade millionaire in an age of 35. I have been a millionaire since.

Sincerely,
Asbjorn Lonvig

"I became a selfmade millionaire in an age of 35. I have been a millionaire since."
Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know that. It explains everything. I didn't mean to disturb an old bored millionaire having some fun with hobby-arts.
I hope you have lots of fun with it!

pleasant greets,
XXX YYYY

Dear XXX YYYY,

That's not good enough.
I answered to why money is no object to me.

I made an effort to answer, please make an effort to give me some decent response.

Sincerely,
Asbjorn Lonvig

an exhibition of the new ceramic work of Hyun Kyung Yoon. Her second show with Cross MacKenzie, Yoon?s recent work builds on her earlier wall installations inspired by the art of calligraphy. ?Flow? the ceramic installation Yoon mounted in 2008, was made up of 40 individual monochromatic black elements that danced across the space with lyricism and grace. Each element connected visually to the next piece, letter by letter, spelling out a three-dimensional message that spoke volumes. Her language is volume, space, and linear movement. In the recent work, the artist has added new complexities, color, surface design and flame-like spikes to add expressiveness to the parts Read Indepth Article

Frank Gaard: Poison & Candy
Walker Art Center - Minneapolis, MN USA

?Monet had his water lilies,? writes Frank Gaard, ?and I have my panties.? Known for his brash personality and his idiosyncratic art practice, this Minneapolis-based painter has made an indelible mark on the local visual arts community over the past four decades. Using a vibrant, sometimes acrid palette, Gaard offers up satire through imagery derived from his emotional life, intellectual and political obsessions, and relationships, skewering pop culture excesses as well as academic and art world elitism. A large canvas from 1990, Satanic Housekeeping, asks ?Would you like to talk dirty with me?? ?scrambling French critical theory, Pop art, drugs, assemblage, and portraiture into an inviting, free-associative provocation. The exhibition first debuted in New York City in the fall of 2010 at the Ricco/Maresca Gallery and is the result of an email correspondence between Slota and LaBute from 2008-2010, initially born as a greeting card series that developed into an eighteen text-and-image photographic print narrative of innocuous, suburban domesticity gone subtly and deeply awry.

At the beginnings of their email pen-pal-ship, LaBute suggested investigating a ?family affair confessional? as a central theme and soon after offered this evocative thought: ?the baby stopped crying hours ago. i?m afraid to go upstairs and check it.? Read Indepth Article

Taylor Swift & Zac Efron Address Dating Rumors

First Published: February 21, 2012 11:21 AM EST Credit: Michael Rozman/Warner Bros.

Zac Efron and Taylor Swift appear on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ on February 21, 2012Caption Zac Efron and Taylor Swift appear on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ on February 21, 2012 LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Taylor Swift and Zac Efron have been the subject of persistent dating rumors lately and the stars are finally speaking out about whether or not they’re a couple.

The “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” co-stars cleared up the rumors with Ellen DeGeneres in an interview airing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Tuesday.

“We are not a couple,” Taylor, 22, said of Zac, 24.

“He’s awesome, we are not a couple though,” the singer continued. “You hear people get together when they’re shooting movies, co-stars. But not like animated co-stars. You know what I’m saying.”

“Yeah,” Zac added with a laugh.

“Oh my god, as we were recording out voiceovers on separate coasts we really connected,” Taylor joked.

So how did the two stars spend their recent Valentine’s Day?

“I actually had a pathetic single girls party. It was cool. That’s actually what it was called. I’m not saying that being single is pathetic. We’ve talked about this. I think it’s awesome,” Taylor — who has been linked to Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal and more over the years – told Ellen. “I had all my single girlfriends over and we ate junk food and just ate whatever we wanted and danced. We made these little profile cards about why we’re single.”

As for Zac, who reportedly stepped out with “Mirror Mirror” star Lily Collins on Valentine’s Day, the actor confirmed to Ellen that he did indeed spend the special night with someone, but stopped short of revealing who.

“I went to a screening of a film that I did called ‘Liberal Arts.’ Then cooked some dinner,” he said.

“With who?” Ellen asked.

“A friend,” Zac coyly replied.

Kim Kardashian & Kris Jenner Thrilled Kourtney Is Having A Girl

First Published: February 25, 2012 11:54 AM EST Credit: Access Hollywood

Kim Kardashian & Kris Jenner Are Excited For Kourtney’s Baby GirlCaption Kim Kardashian & Kris Jenner Are Excited For Kourtney’s Baby Girl LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant with her second child – a girl – and her mom and sister couldn’t be more excited to have another little lady joining the Kardashian/Jenner clan.

“I’m so excited for Kourtney — I know she really wanted a girl,” Kim Kardashian told Access Hollywood at QVC’s “The Buzz at the Red Carpet” event in Los Angeles on Thursday. “I’m excited for her and Scott [Disick].”

Kim said she plans to spoil her soon-to-arrive niece, but is also thinking of ways to make sure Mason (Kourtney and Scott’s 2-year-old son) doesn’t feel neglected when his baby sister arrives.

“I could just kidnap Mason and spoil him even more so he doesn’t feel the love leaving because there’s a new girl,” she told Access.

Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner is also over the moon about Kourtney’s baby girl news.

“It’s obviously exciting because Kourtney already has a little boy,” Kris said. “It’s always fun to have the opposite sex.

“But whatever she gives us we’re just thrilled to have,” she added.

Kourtney, 32, first announced she and her longtime beau were expecting their second child together back in November.

“Scott and I are so excited to announce that we are expecting our second child and are thrilled to be expanding the love in our family,” she said in a statement at the time. “Now I’m nine weeks along. You’re supposed to wait 12 weeks to tell people, but I feel confident.”

Taylor Kitsch Talks ‘John Carter’ & ‘Friday Night Lights’ Movie Rumors

First Published: February 22, 2012 4:46 PM EST Credit: Disney

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Taylor Kitsch in ‘John Carter’Caption Taylor Kitsch in ‘John Carter’Taylor Kitsch steps into his first leading feature film role in the upcoming sci-fi action adventure movie, “John Carter,” a project he called “an incredible journey,” – but one that took its toll on his body.

“Many [bumps and bruises],” the 30-year-old actor, who plays the title character in the Disney movie about a Civil War solider who is mysteriously transported to Mars and is quickly entrenched in the planet’s own civil war, told Access Hollywood.

“Some groin tears, to high ankle sprains, some good cuts,” Taylor told Access at the movie’s junket in Carefree, Ariz., when asked about his on-set injuries. “I would love a bruise on some days, compared to what I was actually dealing with.”

Despite his numerous injuries and hours wearing a harness – used to create the film’s out of this world action sequences – Taylor was committed to nailing the character created by author Edgar Rice Burroughs a 100 years ago.

“I loved the challenge,” Taylor told Access, explaining that he wanted to bring “heart” to his character.

In addition to his epic Disney movie, Taylor also has “Battleship” and Oliver Stone’s “Savages” coming up – but what about a movie version of the beloved “Friday Night Lights,” where he played tortured football star/heartbreaker Tim Riggins?

“I don’t know!” Taylor said of rumors of a big screen sequel to the series (which was adapted for the small screen from the original 2004 movie). “I have no idea what’s going on.”

Taylor told Access that he has yet to see a script and doesn’t even know if one exists for the rumored project, but if he gets his way, “FNL” fans may not see Riggins rehashed on the big screen.

”[Series creator] Pete [Berg] knows this as much as anyone else… I love the way that we ended the character of where he’s at,” Taylor explained. “I love playing him, but I think I want to leave him the way that it is.”

“John Carter” opens in theaters on March 9.

Chris Brown Accused Of Stealing Woman’s Cell Phone Outside Miami Club; Police Report Filed

First Published: February 23, 2012 6:09 PM EST Credit: Seth Browarnik/WorldRedEye.com

Chris Brown is spotted at Cameo in Miami, Flor., on February 19, 2012Caption Chris Brown is spotted at Cameo in Miami, Flor., on February 19, 2012 LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- A Florida woman has accused R&B singer Chris Brown of taking her cell phone outside of a Miami club on Sunday – a felony offense listed as a “robbery by sudden snatching,” according to the police report.

In the Miami Beach Police report, Christal Spann claims she witnessed Brown and artist Tyga exiting the side door of club Cameo, where Brown entered a black Bentley.

Spann approached the vehicle and took a photo of Brown inside of the car, according to the report, when the “Look At Me Now” singer allegedly “reached though his car window and snatched her phone from her hands.”

Brown allegedly told Spann, “B****, you ain’t going to put that on no website,” before grabbing the phone, putting his car window up and driving away, the report states.

On Thursday, a Miami Beach PD officer told Access Hollywood that Brown has not been arrested and as yet has not been charged, adding that the State Attorney’s office is preparing the arrest warrant.

The alleged incident could mean more legal trouble for Brown, as he is still on probation for assault charges stemming from the 2009 beating of then-girlfriend Rihanna.

A rep for Brown was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Access Hollywood on Thursday.
